2 0 1 7 Favorites - So Far.

I feel like we haven't spoken in awhile on the subject of favorites. Can we all just sit down with our pocket books and shoes in a circle here and talk about girl things? There are a few products I've been using so far this year that have been game changers. I know people tend to do monthly favorites but I'm slow, I need time to develop feelings and begin a deep emotional relationship with products. Love and tenderness, love and tenderness.

Keep in mind, I'm going to cover everything. Makeup, skincare, hair care and even clothing. Shall we? I've got 10. In no particular order.

1. Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless h20 Foundation.

I've been using this foundation all. mother fucking. year. long. I'm obsessed with it's natural finish and dewy-ness. Super hydrating, super light but also build able if needed. I'm a really big fan. Can you tell? It's basically empty....

I found it best to apply this foundation with my fingers rather than a brush or a sponge, I find it just sinks into the skin better. *shrug*

I'd probably say this is light to medium coverage and great for people like me with normal/dry skin. I'm in the shade Champagne for anyone interested as well. :)

2. Colourpop Blotted Lip + Ultra Blotted Lip.

Now, these came out a little bit ago. I added these to the list because since the second I got them, I've been wearing them pretty much every single day. And this is coming from a girl who buys lipstick but in reality, doesn't wear lipstick on a daily basis. Ever. There are times I put it on, take a photo and then make the split decision to take it off before I leave the house. Guilty. But these... I'm obsessed. The blotted lip is more like a matte lip tint/balm. Super creamy, a little transfer but not enough for me to be annoyed. Subtle colors. Super pretty! And the Ultra blotted lip is basically the liquid matte version. Super light I can't even tell it's on. Also, zero transfer. I can go on and on about how much I love this line... now excuse me while I stock up on every single shade.

*favorite shade. Ultra blotted lip: Zuma

*favorite shade. Blotted lip: Drip

3. Get Frecked.

This is a company that I've been following for what feels like years. They were originally a kickstarter that I was extremely intrigued by. Coming from someone who's been wearing the occasional freckle by eyeliner for years now... you have a product that's easier? I'm listening. They just recently launched and you bet your ass I was up at 10am PST clicking like a mad man to score one. I did. And I have been rocking them ALMOST every single day since it arrived and this is no exaggeration. For those of you that like the occasional freckled sun-kissed look like I do, this is a must have. They blend SO much better than eyeliner, they sink into your skin and don't rub off when you put more products on top of it. I'm amazed. If you want to see what they look like ON me, click here. Also, yay for supporting small businesses! The owner of this business is a boss ass bitch and I'm so impressed with her hustle. Git it, Remi.

4. EvoHair Salty Dog Spray (Really, EvoHair Everything)

This company has been talked about for a few months now. I've been hearing so many rumors on the interwebs that I finally had to see what the hype was about.

I bow down. I am at a loss. Fucking incredible. My hair feels fucking incredible. Let's also talk about their Sea Salt spray that doesn't make my hair dry and sticky. What kind of sorcery is this?! I gotta say... super impressed. This company may have just beat out Lush in my opinion and I know that is saying a lot. My soft and pretty hair speaks for itself.

*another favorite product: Evohair moisture mask!

5. MuddyBody Glow Skin Perfecting Elixir.

(Use the code: Girrlscout)

I've been using MuddyBody masks since, god, forever? We'll just go with that. Still using them on the weekly, might I add. But we're not here to talk about that. This glowy gold goddess of an elixir has been a part of my daily skincare/makeup routine since the day it arrived on my doorstep. I kid you not. I use this before I put on foundation as sort of a moisturizer/primer and it doubles as the greatest lip primer of all time.

Now, I know there's another gold or rose/gold elixir like this by Farsali. And the answer is yes, I've tried it. I've tried both and they both are good. Not going to lie. Just different scents, both good. Now, $39... or $55. That's what it comes down to. Also, small business support trumps everything for me. I like being a part of the muddy body family. No I am not being paid to write this. #notsponsored

6. Blueprint Botanicals Be Brilliant Face Serum.

I have been religiously using this face serum every night before bed for the past 2/3 months or so. I have seen a crazy difference in my skin and it's texture even. I wake up feeling glowy and it also smells amazing.

It's also best to pat this into your skin instead of rubbing it in. I've learned that recently and saw a huge difference!

I've also used this as an overnight scalp treatment - works really well! This stuff is amazing. Also, YES, SMALL BUSINESSES FOR THE WIN.

*please note: looks like her site is temporarily down at the moment but it should be back soon! I had no idea until after I wrote this review. eek!

7. Duvolle "Impulse" Far-infared Flat Iron.

(Use the code: GS70)

Super impressed with this flat iron coming from someone who's used cheap ones in the past that have worked just fine, but overtime I noticed it wasn't treating my hair very well. You want something gentle  This doubles as both for me. Easiest flat iron I've ever curled with because of it's 1" rounded *tourmaline coated plates for superior straightening and hold, as well as ENIG (Extra Negative Ion Generation) technology to lock in moisture.

This was a pleasant surprise for me and it didn't break the bank! My code will give you 70% off and no I am not being paid to write this review. #notsponsored

8. KL Polish

Most of you know who KathleenLights is. For those of you who don't, she's a super adorable youtuber. I don't follow many BUT, she's pretty damn cute. She started her own nail polish line and I was immediately hooked after one purchase. I feel like I now own every color. The brush on these is so AMAZING and SO easy to apply. I've never done my nails so fast and efficiently. Go me! I've always hated skinny brushes that take forever and you have to sit there for an hour doing one hand. *eye roll* So fast, so opaque, unique colors and stays on! IMPRESSED, KATHLEEN.

*Not sold in stores. Online only. But super fast shipping!

9. Topshop Jamie Jeans.

I've talked about jeans on here before I think -back when I discovered American Eagle "jeggings" *barf* that word. I now can officially say I've traded those pairs in for Topshop Jamie jeans. Holy beautiful ass. These are SO comfortable, SO flattering and SUCH good quality.

Now, I know what you're thinking, $70 for a pair of jeans? Or maybe I was thinking that at first, but once I caved and bought one pair.... I now own 10? 11? If you can't afford that, which makes total sense - try looking on Poshmark or Depop, I've scored a few pairs on there as well for half the price. I will treat myself to a pair every now and then when I have extra cash. Definitely worth it. These are game changers, people. The only jeans I own.

*They sell them at Nordstroms for anyone who wants to try them on in person before they purchase online.

10. Puff.Me Volume Powder Spray

I came across this product on Instagram and patiently waited for it to come back in stock for WEEKS. I'm so glad I grabbed it! I literally LIVE for hair volume, especially during this growing out process. Anything that will make it look like I have more hair than I actually do... sign me the fuck up!

I've tried so many root lifters and powders and it's a pain to apply and it leaves my hair feeling disgusting. This is the only one I've tried, not kidding, that works well, is SO easy to apply and doesn't leave my hair feeling gross afterwards. I've talked about this in a few videos on Instagram... and here I am again. Talking about it. Because it fucking works and that's what matters. I love it!

I hope this was useful to someone... anyone... I'm gonna hope for the best, haha. There's always so many products circulating out there that you never know what's actually good and what's just marketed well. That's why favorites posts are so important. Let me know if you guys have ANY questions I'm happy to answer them in the comments below! Have a great motherfucking week. I friggin' love you all! xo

Life Hack: The Men Are Hiding Things.

One thing I've learned when evolving into my own style is, who cares what section you're shopping in. Really. Who the fuck cares. Explore.

One of the best fashion and/or life "hacks" that I'm a believer in is shopping in the men's section. Excuse me, why must they insist on hiding such great finds in there? Rude. I'm over here with my long torso just wishing things would fit me properly, swimming in a sea of crop tops and capped-sleeve tee land. Not a fun place to be. It's constricting.

Let me run you through some simple outfits that I personally love that all include a MEN'S item of clothing. You wouldn't have noticed if I didn't point it out. Oddly enough after putting them together, they all happened to be from H&M. So, there's a nudge in the right direction...  ;)

DSC_6902.jpg
DSC_6891.jpg

A crewneck sweatshirt that's actually long enough for me and able to go over my hands? I'm a hand hider. Guilty. It's hard to find these days. Even our crewnecks here on the shop are unisex because women's are just a joke (size wise).

Now, I fully understand why some girls like the smaller tees, the tight fitting shape, I understand. If you've got it flaunt it. Who am I to tell you not to buy it? For me, I don't personally wear "oversized" tees to hide my shape, I just love the casual style of it, man. I mean, even the most simplest of tasks like tucking in the front of your tee in your skinny jeans makes a look 30x more put together and/or "styled". I don't know how that's a thing but IT'S A THING. It's a thing that I denied for a long time and eventually gave in and understood.

Everyone's style is different and that's what makes them, well, them. Embrace the fuck out of that. I will never tell you to do otherwise. I'm just sharing my shopping secrets, from me to you, in case you're always having a hard time. I find that when people try and find something I tagged online... they can't find it, well because most likely it was found in the men's section. See what I mean?! They're hoarding the good shit over there. Selfish bastards. Who needs to spend extra money on a women's "oversized tee" when you can pay a fraction of the price right over in the other section?! Am'i'right ladies.

DSC_6978.jpg

My hands are just so happy, tucked in their little sleeve home. Toasty. You can't do this with women's thermals... and if you do, the second you reach up to grab something or hug someone, it creeps up your stomach. *eye roll*

I guess my whole thing is simplicity. Fake it til' you make it, in a sense that... you look put together and styled but you're also stupid comfortable and hey, you saved money. That sounds like a huge win to me. There's nothing that says you can't shop in any section you want. You might be surprised at what you find.

I've been on the hunt for a distressed hooded cardigan that wasn't paper thin for MONTHS. Turns out, again, I was looking in the wrong section. Men's XS. Fits like a damn dream. I live in this jacket. AND IT'S GOT POCKETS!

Before I keep rambling on and on and on, I think you see my point. This is also something most girls probably already know, I'm completely aware of that. But hey, it's something I live by... and it's something I needed to share. Don't let them steal the good shit, ladies. There's a whole 'nother world out there. Unite and conquer.

DIY Life Hack ft. Hats

First, let me just say what everyone is thinking - I'm sorry I've been so MIA lately, I am a horses ass. If you follow me on social media you'll know it's been for a good cause - the shop. Spencer and I have been working our tails off on new fun stuff and restocking items in a timely manner... making sure everything is perfect and full of tasteful profanity. You know me.

That being said, I have a quick fashion life hack that I must share with you! This has been another result of me having an oddly shaped head and refusing to give up when something doesn't fit. There's always a solution, you just have to dig around a craft store to find it.

Exhibit A: a beautiful Brixton Messer Fedora (one of the best fedoras I've ever owned, just saying...)

IMG_3055.jpg

Here's a little back story, I've bought Brixton hats before, did I mention how great they are? I was a size medium in my other hats and this one the reviews said it ran large, so I safely assumed that I would be a small. (Tip: Don't assume, ever) I digress. It's still, for my oddly shaped head, half an inch big and just wobbles when I put it on. I probably just don't have enough hair, but that's my own fault. I refused to let this beat me down and I couldn't return it, so I headed to the craft store for a solution.

PSA. This isn't a crazy hard tutorial by ANY means, so don't be scared. I'm sure there are more practical ways to fix this situation but this is just my way. I figured I'd run you through the short steps anyways because well, it's easier. What I'm saying is, it's freakin' easy.

What you need:

  • Hat
  • 1 sheet of regular black felt (or whatever color the interior of your hat is)
  • 1 tube of super fabric glue
  • Scissors (preferably not the ones pictured, they were horrible... mistaaake)

Step 1. Cut 2 vertical strips of felt that are relatively the same width as the inner lining of the hat. (The part that hugs your head the tightest) This doesn't have to be perfect by any means, but just around the same size.

Step 2. Run some of that super fabric glue on the pieces. Be generous but don't go overboard. Be an adult now, this isn't play time. These are expensive hats!

Step 3. Carefully place the strips of felt on the inside of the hat. Pressing down hard and making sure it sticks. Do the same with both strips. Two should cover one layer (One on the left, one on the right) You understand.

Step 4. Wait for it to dry. It shouldn't take too long but I'd give it an hour or two, just in case. Your hat should look like so. Like, basically the same because we're sneaky fuckers.

Step 5. Your head is now being softly hugged by a glorious hat. Go live life to the fullest.

or Step 6 if needed. If your hat is still a little bit loose, you can always double up and do another layer of felt on the inside. I recommend doing one layer at a time though, just because you can't really predict how it'll fit afterwards until the glue dries and you try it on. And let's be honest, we are people who bought hats in a size that doesn't fit us. We're not so reliable at this point when it comes to assumptions. Better safe than sorry.

I've done this magic trick now on 2 Brixton fedoras I own. It's seriously amazing and it actually stays on BETTER being grasped by felt instead of the original inner lining. No offense, Brixton. But I'm so in love! I had to share this hack with you, even if all it is is gluing more fabric on the inside of a hat. I'm no innovative genius, just a determined hat lover.

I hope you all learned something and I hope there are hats in your closet that can now love you. xo Enjoy

Romp Around.

It's been way too long since I covered some fashion on here and I decided to make a comeback with one of my favorite things: Rompers. Let's be honest guys, they are gods gift. Glorified pajamas (some of them). I can't get enough.

Even though I struggle with long torso syndrome, I still find a way to make them work and find the right ones for my shape. It's a science. I studied. I also love the fact that they cut outfit deciding time in HALF. One thing, boom. Pick out shoes. You're done, uh'bye.

I know I've written a post about rompers before, way back in 2014.. and my opinion still stands. There are ways to wear and enjoy rompers whilst having a longer torso. Easy. Just find rompers that are either 1) not elastic at the waist or 2) halter or have adjustable straps.

The elastic waist is tricky, especially for people like me who have child bearing hips. It's usually a no-no and I gravitate towards rompers that are one width, (like pictured above) that way you don't have anything riding up while you're walking, virtually turning your outfit into a thong by the time you've taken your 3rd step. Whenever I see one width rompers like these... I pounce. They are so comfortable.

Another alternative is a halter/off the shoulder or adjustable straps, cutout backs, etc etc. If you find something that has a separate bottom piece all it's own, that's good, that way you're able to adjust the length of the back. Girls like me with a booty know what's up.

This particular romper was such an awesome exception and like I mentioned before, cut outs are your friend. They allow extra length and the back was open, thus giving me room to adjust. I hope you're writing this all down because if you have the same problems as I do, this will save a life. Unfortunately there's the one disadvantage that comes with sporting a romper... I love them, but every bathroom trip turns into an episode of Naked and Afraid. There's no way around it. Sorry guys.

I know I wrote about this subject two years ago but I feel the need to highlight on it again because I keep stumbling upon amazing rompers that are not only affordable but great quality. I found both of these at Tobi.com and the best part is if you sign up for their mailing list, you immediately get 50% off your entire first purchase. Uh. Yes please. (please note: this does not give me any sort of commission, I just like sharing good shit with you guys.)

And this, is, good, shit.

DIY Lace Up T-Shirt

This whole DIY idea came to me at 4:00am this week, while I was forcing myself not to fall back asleep because I had a horrific dream and didn't want it to continue. Anybody else have those nights? The. Worst. So I found myself surfing the internet on my phone and I came across a regular t-shirt but it had a laced-up center. Whaaaaat?! Two of my favorite things. I must have it! I kept searching and searching to find the source, of course, just my luck, a PLAIN lace-up tee was $108. Yes, I'm not even kidding you. Do people really drop that kind of money for a t-shirt? Uh, not in my world, I like to eat and pay my rent on time thank you very much.

The more I looked at it and the more screenshots I took... I was determined, "I can totally fucking do that and not spend $108." I woke up the next morning, thrifted two tees from Salvation Army, picked up what I needed at the craft store and went to town. Well no, I went home but you know what I mean.

I made 2 lace up tees and spent a total of $31.00. Yup. That happened.

Now, here's what you need:

  • Any tee/sweater/whatever of your choice.
  • A pack of silver or gold metal eyelets.
  • Matte black trim. (I got 2 yards.)
  • Matte black string of your choice. (make sure it's small enough to fit through the eyelets!)
  • A hammer.
  • Scissors.
  • Black thread & a needle. (I chose to sew these by hand because I don't own a sewing machine, but this can easily be done either way.)

Step 1: Lay out your shirt. I put a flat surface inside of it, (Example: I used a random flat rate shipping box I had lying around.) Please note: I was not aware this was a band, I found it in the children's section of the Salvation Army for $2.15... so... sorry guys, whoever the hell you are.

Step 2: Mark how low you want the cut-out to be and make sure it's straight. Use anything as a straight line, even season 5 of The Walking Dead.

Step 3: Cut it out as best as you can. Nobody is perfect, we ain't here to judge.

Step 4: Hand sew (or use a machine) the black trim around the edge of the shirt right where you cut it. Make sure both laters are on top of each other. It doesn't have to be pretty, you can't even see it, mine is super messy. I chose to leave the collar, whether or not you want to cut it out or leave it is entirely up to you.

Step 5: Place the metal eyelets where you want them. You can do however many you want, I just knew I didn't have much string so I went with less than the reference picture above. Besides, you don't really need THAT many, they went a little string crazy if you ask me.

Side note: I bought 1 set of eyelets and 1 "starter kit" of the same eyelets. It came with a tool to help pound them in better. I highly suggest getting it. Though, these things were a royal pain in my ass to put on, I can't even imagine how difficult it wouldn't been without these little helpers. (you can see them on the righthand side of each photo above.)

Step 6: Cut tiny holes/slits where you want to place the eyelets and pound those suckers in. Trial and error is key here, folks. You want to make sure it goes all the way through both materials until you can see all the way through it. Also, when you pound them in with the hammer, make sure your tool is straight or else they will get pounded in all crooked and the hole will be half it's intended size. (see below to know what the hell I'm talking about.)

After awhile you do get into a rhythm with it and it gets much easier. My second shirt took me half the time than my first did but that doesn't mean I didn't yell "oh my god! WHY!" every time I messed one up and had to take it out. But we must persevere because the end result is so badass.

If it makes you feel better, here's how many I fucked up while doing both tees.

Step 7: Lace 'em up! It's just like lacing your shoes. Nothing fancy or difficult about it. When you get to the top, you can either have them hanging out the front or you can make them go inside and tie a knot at the end. (which is what I chose to do.) but hey, you do you girl.

Aaaaaand you're done! It's literally that easy.

Congratulations, you just saved $71.00 and you'll have the pleasure of telling people "oh, I made it myself" when they ask where you bought it. Mwahaha. Or I guess, you could link them here. That's probably the most neighborly thing to do. ;)

I'd rather get my hands dirty and chip a few nails and feel proud of myself than not have enough money to put gas in my car for the sake of one t-shirt. I mean, we've all got bills to pay here. Pizza doesn't just order itself OKAY.

Felt good to get crafty again with you guys, let's do it again sometime soon.

The Best Pair Of Jeans, Ever.

This post is way overdue but it is necessary. I came across these jeans months ago and since then have purchased 5 more pairs. When I am in love with something, I buy one in every color, that's just what I do, that's how I roll. I never know where they might go so I have to snag them up before they disappear.

Luckily for you, they haven't disappeared yet. I found these in the most unlikely of stores... American Eagle. I know, right? I mean, perhaps these stores are more prominent in other states, but here in Southern California there's literally only one left that I know of. I remember wanting to work there when I was in junior high because they all had super cool head sets. Dream big. But anyways, a friend of mine wrote a post about how amazing their jeggings were. Now... I've always been skeptical about jeggings, they are usually so-so quality and more often than not their pockets are fake. I HATE fake pockets.

I happened to be in the one mall within a 100 mile radius of my house that had an American Eagle... and decided to give them a whirl. Tried them on. Holy shit.

These jeans or technically "jeggings" are as durable as regular jeans but as comfortable as jeggings. The most perfect combination AND they have real pockets! Halle-fucking-lujah.

Me having child bearing hips went straight to the high waisted, picked up 2 that day. I'm not even kidding you, within a few weeks I had ordered 3 more pairs in different styles and had literally thrown out all of my other skinny jeans. I had no use for them anymore. They are pretty damn true to size and stretchy. I did fucking lunges in these things.

I'm gonna keep this post short and sweet. For a size reference, I'm usually a 5 or a 27 in jeans and I'm 5'5"... and I wear a 6 Regular. Aaaand now you all know what size I am. Not that I'm embarrassed but I mean, if you ever want to buy me pants, you now can't use that excuse. ;)

This post was not sponsored by American Eagle, I do not work with them I just love wearing their jeans.. jeggings.. I hate calling them that... blaaaahGo pick up a pair, I swear to god you will not be disappointed. You can quote me on that. You're welcome.

What's 'Out Of Stock' Isn't Always Gone Forever.

As much as I do like the rare opportunities I have time to roam around a shopping mall by myself with actual money to spend; I prefer to shop behind my computer screen. It's much more convenient and I can do proper research before making a final decision. I always feel pressured to "quick, make a decision!" when I'm standing in a store staring at one item like Uhhhhhhh. Plus, the rush of bookmarking tracking numbers is undeniable, no? Just me? Probably.

One thing I've noticed when shopping at places like Forever 21 is that they switch styles in and out SO quickly. You could snag a coat on their site one day and 3 weeks later it will be sold out and no longer exist and never come back. *poof. It's very rare I actually get that email, "Your item is back in stock!" I never hold my breath with that shit.

My quick tip to you: If you see something on their site that strikes your fancy, buy it. I wouldn't wait longer than a week. You might never see it again. Most of the comments I get on Instagram are, "You got that at Forever 21? I don't see it on the site." It's probably because I purchased it over a month ago.

And then I'm like,

...this also goes for sites such as GoJane and Boohoo.

But if for some reason you're not fast enough and what you wanted is now gone, there are other solutions. Listen to this.

+Story time.

A little over a week ago I was on a serious hunt for these Jeffrey Campbell Tripoli boots I found in a photo online. Completely sold out on every shoe website I could find. There was a pair I spotted on Depop but they weren't in my size. I did google image searches, Polyvore, you name it, I couldn't find a pair anywhere. I saw that Kohl's was selling a knock off version for half the price but here we are again, not in my size. I started googling how they looked, searching every adjective you could think of. "Black, cutout, buckle, boot, pointed toe, distressed, ankle" EVERYTHING.

Finally, a few days later I came across a pair on Poshmark that looked perfect, obviously a knock off brand, labeled under "super cute open back boots". How did I even find that?! Anyways, my color, my size, I had to have them... and I saved $242. Can you see the difference? Yeah, neither can I.

Just when you think something is unfindable... Boom. This is why I love Depop, Poshmark and all those other second-hand selling apps. It gives you that ounce of hope that what you want may still be out there and will be even more affordable than you could imagine. I'm definitely not one to be whiney about name brand items. Oh, you made the same looking sweater for a quarter of the price? Give it to me now!

*Some people don't like shopping second hand... but I have one question for you - WHY? You're buying directly from a human and even better, you're helping another human make some extra money. You're adopting. You're adopting cute things from other cute people and c'mon, who doesn't like to do that?

This post is not sponsored by anyone - I've just been extremely impressed with Depop as a seller and as a buyer in the past few weeks and I wanted to share my thoughts and feels. It's always nice to have a win when you're on the hunt for a specific item and everyone loves a comeback story. So don't ever have a panic attack when that item you had in your shopping bag is no longer in stock, there is hope and it's probably cheaper.

Fashion Blogger Assumptions

Being a "fashion blogger" people tend to assume you're all about dresses/rompers with thigh high socks, 24 necklaces at one time, as many rings as Johnny Depp, garter belts, and platforms. While that might work for some girls every day, that just isn't what I've ever been about. Sure, dressing up and feeling sexy sometimes makes me a happy little clam, but so does having your favorite jeans and tee fit perfectly out of the dryer... throw on a hat and Vans and you're feeling like a solid 10. I can do both and feel great.

Truth be told I'm most happy in the most simplest of outfits. Which then forms the frequent question, "why be a fashion blogger?" Well fuck, why not? Just because I don't enjoy jingle jangling down the street carrying tons of trinkets doesn't mean I'm not into fashion. I know girls that thrive off of that shit, and that's okay too. You should always do you!

I grew up as a little tom boy: high top Converse, camouflage pants and every single lion king t-shirt you could imagine. I had dresses but I only liked them with my cowboy boots or when I had to dress up for a holiday or family function. I danced to the beat of my own drum I guess you would say.

The last situation I want to put myself in is having to adjust my outfit 30 times in one night because I thought too hard about making a statement and just ended up looking uncomfortable the whole time. You gotta stick true to yourself.

You don't need to go above and beyond with fashion in order to be a "fashionista"... I feel like that just happens to be the ones who blog about it these days. The big Jeffrey Campbell 6" platforms with the high waisted shorts and crop tops. It looks killer in photographs but more often than not, I feel like that's not what they wear on an every day basis. It could be for some, I have no idea, this is just my assumption.

But I personally feel like fashion blogging is about sharing relatable, affordable fashion tips, tricks and every day outfits. Things everyone can afford. It irks me when I'm on a blog and think "Ugh I love this outfit but there's no way I can afford your $300 shoes and $500 Free People dress" *shrug* That's just my perspective on the situation.

The point I'm trying to drive home is don't feel pressured by some of today's fashion bloggers who like to go above and beyond with their style - that's the way THEY express themselves and that's great. But that doesn't mean you need to make yourself uncomfortable in order to "get on their level".

You're on YOUR level and that's fucking great too.

NTYLS + A Blogger's Challenge

I've been working with NTYLS for a few months now and I've been loving them. We hit it off immediately and everything they stand for... I will gladly stand behind. The most adorable ladies with the most powerful message. I can dig it. :)

For those of you that are scratching your heads, NTYLS stands for Note To Your Little Sister. If you want to know more about their background, Click Here.

I was given a fun challenge. I love challenges. Two dresses, two looks. Day/Night. Here's what I've come up with, just going off of things I had in my own closet already. Keeping it very simple!

Dress 1 - Courney Maxi Dress // Day Look

Literally anything paired with a simple leather jacket can be day OR night, in my opinion. I pretty much live in leather jackets, you can ask Spencer, he will vouch. It will literally DAY anything you got. Not even kidding you.

Accessories for this look include:

Dress 2 - Ashley Dress // Day Look

Again, with the leather jacket. I swear by it. This is a very flashy dress when worn without a jacket, in order to make it day, you have to cover the right parts of it. I like saving dramatic details for night time, maybe that's just me, but it's more fancy I think.

  • Accessories used for this look are the same as above.

Dress 1 - Courtney Maxi Dress // Night Look

Simply put... jacket off and some sexy skin-showing shoes later and you're ready for the night. I instantly felt ready to grab dinner with my man when I switched into night gear. You can also put your hair up with this look to show more shoulder if yours is longer. Me, I don't really have much of a choice. ;)

Accessories for this look include:

Dress 2 - Ashley Dress // Night Look

This dress. Bam. Night and day in itself when you remove the jacket, didn't I tell you? This dress also has a back scoop neck. To die for. I wanted to make sure I used the same accessories and just changed minor details in order to make the world of a difference. The right shoes always go a long way. I wore this dress just walking around downtown with a jacket, the second I took it off I felt almost Vegas-ready.

  • Accessories used for this look are the same as above.

Dressing up or down a dress, romper, etc is quite simple if you don't overdo it. Don't overthink it. Some people underestimate just how easy it can be when you pair something with a simple jacket or a day shoe. I think some people stray from semi-flashy pieces because they think "well when in the hell would I wear that?" I'm here to tell you you can wear it whenever you damn well want to! hehe

Thank you NTYLS for not only selling amazing shit but giving me this challenge. It's fun to switch it up sometimes. Bring it on!

Happy Tuesday!

Underneath It All (not the No Doubt song)

I've been wanting to write this blog post for awhile now because it was a constant struggle for me and I've recently figured out the best solution for it. Listen up.

You know when you're out shopping, especially this time of year, when those glorious little white sundresses come out to play. I'm a sucker for baby doll dresses in white, paired with sandals or ankle books Ahhhhhhh! It's definitely a thing of mine. But my biggest struggle was trying it on and going "Yep, you can see RIGHT through this." and I never buy them. Unless you wear a bathing suit underneath and head to the beach or the pool, everyone's gonna see your Tuesday knickers and that nude bra you try so hard to camouflage into your skin. But it doesn't work, it's there, and I feel it ruins the dress. I found the best solution that will literally work for everyone... not even kidding.

Now... I've purchased slips, nude mini skirts and dress slips (which do work!) but when you have a booty like mine, it just rides up when I walk and then everyone gets a free show by the end of the sidewalk. I was constantly pulling it down and adjusting myself that it wasn't worth it anymore.

And then I found these babies on Forever 21...

Now here's the best part about these rompers... they are $6.90 EACH. CHYEAH.

They were listed under the shapewear section, but I don't believe they are thick enough material to be compared to something like Spanx where you can't breath but look bangin'. It held me in and slimmed me out a bit, but I wouldn't rely on this for full shapewear, just my two cents. BUT, they did make it possible for me to stock up on white dresses, and I even bought the black one to wear under black lace. Until now I've been wearing shorts and a tank top under my lace dresses and now it's so easy. Ugh, life saved.

There is one con though, I have to admit. God only knows I want to rip my hair out when I have to go to the restroom with these on, especially under a dress. That's the only downside. I stand there and go, "Shit.." and I basically have to either get my straps off underneath the dress or strip down entirely. It's a process, but beauty is pain.

I will be dehydrated but god damnit I'll look cute doing it!

TGIF ft. Pebby Forevee

So, I stumbled upon this adorable company in the beginning of my blogging journey. Pebby Forevee was one of the first brands I collaborated with so I guess you could say... we're long time lovers. oh baby oh baby. You all know how I feel about making a statement when it comes to tees. I don't need to dive into that again, you see it everywhere. You know the drill.

Her designs are not only sassy but they are cute, funny and #accurate. yes, i just hashtagged in a sentence. The fact that they are all customizable AND unisex made me want them even more!

Off the shoulder, regular crew neck, tank top, you name it. I needed to have them and so did Spencer. Ladies, your men will wear these tees. He wears his almost weekly. He can vouch.

*picks up jaw* Sorry, it still blows my mind that I'm dating such an attractive man. Woosh.

...

Anyways, I feel like every few weeks she comes out with a new design and I need to have it in my closet. I think small businesses like this make the world go round and I'm so blessed to be collaborating with such a sweetheart.

Since Pebby Forevee & I love you all so much, here's 10% off of your next purchase on their site!

Pebby, Thank you for helping my man and I say what we need to say and look damn good while doing it. Don't ever stop creating fun shit for us wildlings to sport.

Love, a definite returning customer & friend.

"It's like a crochet potato sack and I love it" - Me

Hooray! A fashion post! Finally..

If you remember way back when I began this blog, I did a fashion related post about rompers. Girls with long torso's and baby makin' hips just don't work well with rompers, pantsuits, bodysuits, etc etc. I know the struggle. Well, while I have found some rompers every now and then that are cute and fit, when I get to washing them... it all goes down the drain. It's a sad sad day. It shrinks into an XS.

Well, behold.. I found the most perfect romper.. Everyone who follows me on Instagram already knows about my obsession, but I thought I'd go a little more public with it. You know, make it official. Faceb...Um, Blog official. Sure.

*choir singing*

I stumbled upon this on my weekly rummage through Forever 21, because you all know that store is my guilty pleasure. I was obviously hesitant because it's a romper so I double and triple checked the length to make sure it would fit... and I bought a small and waited patiently.

It arrived. I put it on. And I think I literally kept it on for 3 days. (Obviously not 72 hours straight... but you catch my drift) I had to have more. I immediately went online and bought the other two colors available. An olive green color and a light blue/periwinkle color. Random, right?

I'm hoping they come out in other colors, but until then, I have my 3 favorite staple pieces and I'm summer ready. Not only are they super comfortable, but they go.. with.. everything.. and just like the title of this post says, "It's like a crochet potato sack and I love it"

There's no hip/waist elastic and the straps are adjustable. They aren't sheer or see through so you don't have to worry about your goodies showing. A simple bralette underneath, a long necklace, some Dr. Martins and I'm good to go.

I have washed these since I bought them. In the wash, don't dry. Air dry hanging up. It got a little tighter but in all honesty... It fit me better after I washed it, so that's a definite plus! I wasn't expecting that. :P

Best part, they were only $20 each... You can find them here. (You might wanna hurry because they will go fast and I'm not sure when they will ever come back if they leave.)

Anywho, just wanted to share. Enjoy your Monday my lovelies. :)

Manly Flowers

Hey there! I'm back! :)

I have recently developed a weird love for floral print. Every time I see it in a store or on someone it catches my eye. I don't know why. I just think it looks really cool. When it first started becoming a thing, or at least when I first noticed people wearing it my initial thought was 'Wow... That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.'

A lot of a my friends bands and bands that I liked were printing designs with the floral patterns and it was really frustrating. I hated it. I refused to have anything to do with it and I was sure that the fad would die quickly.

Me 008.jpg

But it never did. And I don't know what happened, but something flipped inside my brain and now I can't get enough of it. I love the colors and the patterns. And the warm noise it can bring to an outfit.

Me 006.jpg

I was doing my normal gander through the men's section of Forever21 after payday, finding all kinds of goodies when the pattern of this floral button up caught my eye. I scooped it up and showed it to Michelle, very very excited about my find. She kind of gave me this look like - really?

It was only like 20 beans and I felt like going outside of my normal plain and simple looks so I bought it. And thus - my first floral purchase.

When I started putting together this outfit I had no idea what to match the shirt with. Can't go wrong with black right? So I slapped on some black denim and my wine Docs and looked in the mirror. The shirt was so loud it was over powering everything.

So I figured I needed some sort of light outerwear to soften it up a bit. So I grabbed my black denim jacket and BAM! Perfect.

Me 002.jpg

This outfit is great. I was pretty stoked on it. Not the most comfortable thing in my closet, but it was worth a little discomfort for a nice looking - a little on the formal side - look.

And now I know that I have some shoes that will match just about any floral pattern and I can wear all the cool floral shirts my friends bands put out.

So if you're a dude or a girlfriend of a dude that is not sure if they can rock some floral, just give it a shot. Start simple, and remember that black matches everything.

Floral is almost always a really loud pattern, so just tone it down a bit at first. Or if you're a bold and confident dude with some nuts that can rock it than rock it. Go get 'em tiger.

A New Love

Ever since we got back from Oahu we've found this new love for hiking. i'm not complaining. I've always been adventurous and I love the outdoors but something about adventuring with that man makes it 10x better than I remember it as a kid. Being creative souls I think we see it differently than most, and mostly through a camera lens. There's just so much to see in the world, why waste time? People don't explore their own cities anymore, I don't understand. As much as I'd love to fly to Europe or Iceland and explore, my bank account won't let me right now. In the meantime, until that day finally comes, I will find adventure in my own backyard. You should too.

This past weekend I had an outfit I wanted to shoot for you guys and there's a hiking trail near my house I've always wanted to walk. It's one of those places you see on the side of the road like, "Okay, we must go there soon. Look at that." We grabbed a friend of ours and headed down there. i have no regrets.

Plan on seeing some fun photos come from this new love of ours. We already have a list going of trails we need to conquer. It makes me really excited. :)

I think the sign of a true soulmate isn’t someone you just want to do the super cool stuff with. A real soulmate is the person who makes any ordinary day fun. Some people make all these huge plans to do with their special someone, fuck that. Find someone who you can take grocery shopping and still have a blast with. Find someone who makes you look forward to waking up on Monday.

All About That Affordable Valentine's Day

I'm not really all about the Valentine's Day "holiday". I've also never really had a 'successful' one, whatever that means.. except for 2010 when I bought my car... that was my gift to me from me. All of the other times were blah or nothing was done to make it special. I don't really expect much anymore; I wouldn't categorize myself as high maintenance or prissy where I expect fancy jewelry or really anything at all. expensive jewelry makes me nervous, too much pressure around my neck, buy me a hefty burrito or a steak instead.

This is the first year where it feels different. in a good way. It's also very rare when a guy gives a flying fuck about Valentine's Day and making it something. Spencer wants to do something so, I'm leaving it up to him because he knows I'm cool with whatever.. just spending time together is good enough for me. sorry, that was cheesy. but what I do know is I'ma look damn cute for whatever it is. Any excuse to dress up is alright with me.

I'm completely notorious for online bargain shopping.. I will fill up my shopping carts to the brim and weed stuff out over time in order to get the most bang for my buck. So when it comes to holiday's or whatever, I try my best to keep the outfit spending to a minimum and leave more room for gifts/food/things that are more important.

Being into fashion, it tends to be difficult doing this BUT I finagled my way around the internet this year to come up with a pretty adorable Valentine's Day outfit for under $60.00, if that doesn't make your heart race, pffffffft you're on the wrong blog honey.

I hope I helped a bit for those of you who were struggling to find something cute, simple and affordable for this love-filled, overly-hyped "holiday".

Black On Black On Lace.

Every girl loves lace, don't lie.

I was eyeballing this piece online for weeks before I ran into it in person and caved. God did I not regret that decision. This baby completes me. I've been recently getting into midi skirts/dresses. Naturally because normal skater skirts don't fit me as well as I wish they did... that damn booty. But midi skirts are perfect. (I'll do a full blog post on the subject, I promise)

Just like statement necklaces complete an outfit, so do statement dresses. Statement jackets. Statement hats. It's a thing.

Seeing Red.

You know those bright bold colors just get me. They hear me, they understand.

There's probably nothing I love more than a solid color skater dress. I think I have one in every single color. Dress it up (like so) or dress it down with a flannel and boots. As much as I love throwing on jeans and a t-shirt, I will always feel most comfortable in a casual little dress.

This was actually my look for Thanksgiving. I felt like Christmas the entire time. *facepalm* but no regrets.

Own it, Michelle.

35mm Gold.

There's nothing I love more than gritty, old fashioned semi-out of focus film photographs. Okay, maybe a few things, but not much. Spencer just recently hit up a local camera show in downtown Anaheim and snatched a pretty Welta 35mm baby from the 1940's. Unsure if it even worked or if the expired film from Walmart he rolled would even come out, we took our chances.

I'm so glad that we did.

It’s how we see the world that keeps the darkness beyond at bay. Keeps it from pouring through and devouring us. I think all of us might know that, way down deep.

The whole reason I got into photography was because of film. Fifteen years old basically closed my eyes and chose an elective. Best choice I ever made. It makes me sad that many schools these days don't have it as a choice. I'd love to have my own dark room, hold on while I dream.

The more I see Spencer play around with all these different cameras makes me want to get back into it more... and it makes me love him more, actually. He never ceases to amaze me. Who knew two photographers would work so well together. but that's for another blog post... ;)

This post is also featuring my dear internet friend's new clothing brand Three Leaves Co. I've known Annmarie for years. She's followed my silly mixed up life and I've followed her sweet adorable one.  (It's true.) It's also quite unreal the connection you can make with people without ever meeting face to face. We will meet some day soon though, I swear on it. Some of my closest friends I've met that way. She is the sweetest soul.

I'm stoked for her and her new brand and I gotta say, this tank is probably the softest one I now own. Jackpot. Go check out her shop and follow her on the Instagrams: @threeleavesco

My poor man sacrificed his knee and elbow for this shot, so therefore I must do this post justice.

I can go a little punk rock sometimes... that and I'm a sucker for plaid so I have no choice but to come off sort of grunge. Leave it up to me to wear a strapless dress when I know 75% of my readers are freezing their asses off right now. You're welcome.

Pastel Perfect

There's something about layering that's just so comforting. Even though this isn't a "winter" at all, because let's be honest this is southern California we're talking about... that doesn't mean layers are out of the question. I'm all for it! I surrender to layers, give me all of them, I am not worthy.

I will never turn down anything that's fringe, lace or "strappy".. and this, my friends, is all three.

I think I'm in heaven.

You'll rarely find me in super bright colors and/or flashy floral outfits, it's not really a thing for me. Same with pink, her and I don't get along so well. But when it comes to pastels and soft colors, I'm in love... tha's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
