How To Make Your Home Look Better.

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet; straight to the point. So, if you follow me or Spencer on social media, you'll know he's been selling some signed prints to you guys just in the last few weeks. Blown away by the overwhelming response he received, he amped it up a bit to give you guys more options!

Screen Shot 2015-09-14 at 11.38.33 AM.png

You can now choose a size & material on any print you want whether it be lustre grade photo paper, metal (wall mount included) or wrapped canvas. If you purchase one he's taken of me, I'll be sitting down and personally signing each photo with a little love note for ya. I love connecting with you guys cause you know, we're really good friends by now.

You're gonna want these images hanging in your home, I already have too many to count in mine. ;)

Prints start as low as $25 and go up as you size up. You don't need to break the bank in order to support local artists; we're not here to rob you. I sincerely believe you all need one of his art pieces in your living room. Undeniable talent. Do yourself a favor.

Anyways, I felt the need to write a small blog and completely gush about my boyfriend's killer talents. He's gonna go so far and I can't wait to take this journey with him.

Follow us on Instagram if you don't already, we're always announcing fun little things. :)

Me: @girrlscout // Spencer: @deejaybm

I want to thank everyone who has supported us as a team throughout this kick ass blogging journey. We read every comment, every tagged post and every email. Ugh, we are so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people. Our hearts are full.

Happy Hump Day, we love you!

A New Love

Ever since we got back from Oahu we've found this new love for hiking. i'm not complaining. I've always been adventurous and I love the outdoors but something about adventuring with that man makes it 10x better than I remember it as a kid. Being creative souls I think we see it differently than most, and mostly through a camera lens. There's just so much to see in the world, why waste time? People don't explore their own cities anymore, I don't understand. As much as I'd love to fly to Europe or Iceland and explore, my bank account won't let me right now. In the meantime, until that day finally comes, I will find adventure in my own backyard. You should too.

This past weekend I had an outfit I wanted to shoot for you guys and there's a hiking trail near my house I've always wanted to walk. It's one of those places you see on the side of the road like, "Okay, we must go there soon. Look at that." We grabbed a friend of ours and headed down there. i have no regrets.

Plan on seeing some fun photos come from this new love of ours. We already have a list going of trails we need to conquer. It makes me really excited. :)

I think the sign of a true soulmate isn’t someone you just want to do the super cool stuff with. A real soulmate is the person who makes any ordinary day fun. Some people make all these huge plans to do with their special someone, fuck that. Find someone who you can take grocery shopping and still have a blast with. Find someone who makes you look forward to waking up on Monday.

Black On Black On Lace.

Every girl loves lace, don't lie.

I was eyeballing this piece online for weeks before I ran into it in person and caved. God did I not regret that decision. This baby completes me. I've been recently getting into midi skirts/dresses. Naturally because normal skater skirts don't fit me as well as I wish they did... that damn booty. But midi skirts are perfect. (I'll do a full blog post on the subject, I promise)

Just like statement necklaces complete an outfit, so do statement dresses. Statement jackets. Statement hats. It's a thing.

Tattoo Stories.

I've been getting tons of emails and requests to go over my tattoos and explain a little bit about them. Now, don't be surprised if some of them are simply just things I love and things I think are pretty. Not every single tattoo has to have a long backstory and a history to it. But, some of them hold a very special meaning. Some. ;)

Let's dive into it. First things first, I'll try and go in chronological order from when I got them.

1. Mary Katherine - This is my grandmothers name, she passed away in 2009. Irish pride! This baby is self explanatory. Miss you Nana. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

2. Barcode - Here we go with 17 year old decisions... this is a barcode tattoo that I have on my wrist with my birth date underneath it, 03.19.1990. Definitely one of those "This is so cool".. at the time choices. Poorly done, this was my VERY first tattoo so I didn't know any better. It wasn't necessarily supposed to symbolize anything religious, but it totally comes off that way. What are ya'gonna do... I won't even name the artist that did it because 1) I don't remember and 2) Even if I did, he deserves no credit. Blegh.

3. Mr. Owl - I love this baby. One of my favorite and most known tattoos. I'm a photographer, as you all now know, and I found a drawing of an owl on flickr in 2008 and fell in love. I had my artist put his own spin on it and add a camera in his hands. I'm all for every color, so I told him to make it pop. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

4. Grapevine - I love the meaning behind this tattoo.. "Don't be afraid to go out on a limb, that's where the fruit is." Cute, right? Cause it's on my limb. *knee slap* I seriously love this tattoo, it came out so perfect. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

5. Hot Air Balloon - Here's a prime example of a tattoo I got because it's Anything colorful I will always embrace and I loved how he drew this. It's another one of my favorite pieces. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

6. Cherry Blossom Tree - This one unfortunately turned out to be a bit of a mess. Again, another decision made as a 17 year old. But at least there was heart involved. A friend of mine originally did this piece but the pink faded so much on my very pale skin so I decided to have it re-done to give it a little more shape. This was obviously BEFORE I made the conscious decision to go traditional with my work. It's one of my least favorite tattoos mostly because it doesn't match my style.. But again, what are'ya gonna do? The unreadable quote says, "Do not stir nor awaken love until it pleases." (Artist: Melissa & Big Bear Tattoo)

7. White Daisy Greg - As may of you may not know, well... Spencer does, but white daisies are my favorite flower. Simplicity at it's finest. There are two reasons I got this tattoo, one being that I love daisies and two because Greg fit perfectly in that spot. *giggles* No, seriously, he fits perfect. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

8. Thou Shalt Be Ladylike - This is a matching tattoo that I got with my best friend at the time. Her and I were friends for going on 10 years and I felt it necessary to commemberate that. Even though we are no longer friends, I don't regret it. It's pretty and I always had a good time with her. Good memories for sure. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

9. Heart Padlock - I got this tattoo when I was 18 years old, matching with my boyfriends at the time... you know, that not so nice BOY I mentioned awhile ago. Again, no regrets, it's really pretty - what are ya gonna do? And I just recently realized the middle of it is shaped like a penis which is completely fitting since I married a dick. HA. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

10. The Key - You just had to get a key, didn't you Michelle. There IS a story behind this tattoo, which explains a lot about my horendous past relationship.. but I won't go into detail. Let's just say, getting matching keys attached to the lock was supposed to be a symbol of loyalty. I was the only one that got the key. Point made. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

11. C.E.K <3 - My beautiful and amazing mother. I got this tattoo for her birthday, I plan on getting something for everyone in my family. I'm two away from it. I got a blue rose because those symbolize rarity which is definitely something my mother is. I got her initials C.E.K. in scrabble tiles because if you know my mother, she will kick your ass at any word game. Ever. This is one of my favorite pieces for one of my favorite people in the world. Love you mom. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

12. Anchor - I know what you're thinking and no, I do not know anyone in the Navy nor does this tattoo stand for anything Navy related. I had an open spot on my wrist and a friend of mine wanted to tattoo me. That's literally the entire story. I was in a very weird and sad place in my life and literally handed him my arm like "ok whatever." (Artist: Craig Carleton)

13. Knuckle Heart - This is a matching tattoo that I have with my sister on our pinkies. Simple. Pretty. Girly. She is one of my best friends. :) That is literally all that needs to be said about this baby. Pinky promise. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

14. Knuckle Anchor - Believe it or not, this one holds almost the most meaning to me. This anchor is on my wedding ring finger. I got this tattoo AFTER my divorce. I have a lot of people still asking me if I'll ever get married again and assuming that I'm scarred and will never want to dive in again. False. Why would I blame the institution of marriage just because one guy was an asshole? No way. I love the idea of marriage, and yes I didn't speak up when I should have and got caught in a terrible situation but that in no way effects my outlook on marriage. I got this tattoo because the next time I walk down the aisle it will be because I want to and because I'm ready. That man will be my anchor and I will be his. And maybe I already met him, who knows. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

15. Knuckle Arrows - I mean, I've been obsessed with arrows and nature and mountains since I can remember. Growing up with a cabin in Big Bear, Hello?! Since this whole Girrlscout brand started 2 years ago, it's also been my symbol. (I'll write a blog on how the name came to be, but it's boring, forewarning you) This is just a tattoo I've always wanted and I plan on getting more arrows in the future. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

16. Bird Cage - This is another one of those tattoos I have that has no specific meaning, it's just pretty. I want to build a little more on it and add some more color eventually but it's pretty. I'm a fan. (Artist: Sean Baltzell, St Louis Missouri)

17. Compass - I will admit, I originally got this tattoo for another "I love nature" reason and because well, look at it, it's gorgeous. But I will say this, my brother in law volunteers for search and rescue for San Bernardino County and whenever I see this tattoo I now think of him. I know it's not completely thoughtful since I didn't think of it at the time, but now it's his. I like that. It's staying that way. (Artist: Josh Rees, Luckys Tattoo San Diego)

18. Sugar Skull - I have been wanting a sugar skull for quite some time since I started getting traditional tattoos. You know me, queen of color. What better? This is another "Look at it, it's so pretty" tattoos. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

19 & 20. Traditional Rose - The rose on your left is attached to my sugar skull tattoo. I got these two roses at two different times by different people originally so I needed some sort of symmetry to my collarbone. ;) Note: You can NEVER have too many roses. (Red rose -Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo // Purple rose - redone by Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

21. Lucky #31 Skull - I love this piece. My friend Josh drew this up and I only switched the #13 to a #31 because that's my lucky number. It's a long story but it has to do with 15 year old me admiring a certain lady basketball player and it just stuck. It's always been my thing. And who doesn't love skulls? I'm all about 'em. (Artist: Josh Rees, Luckys Tattoo San Diego)

22. Badass Biker Dad - This is actually my most recent addition. I got this tattoo for my dad, forever a daddys girl. My dad has had a motorcycle since I was probably in the 6th grade and I am the only one in the family with the lady balls to ride with him. Where's everyones sense of adventure?! I've always been in love with motorcycles. In love. And my dad has always talked about getting an eagle tattoo but he can never decide. So dad, let me decide for you, I'll get one in your honor. I had the lady balls here too. ;) aha, Love you dad. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

23. Sternum Dagger - Ouch. This one, the most ouch I've ever experienced. But also, this one, my favorite. This doesn't have any specific meaning other than well, look at it... it's gorgeous. This was a leap for me and I have absolutely no regrets. I love it so much. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

24. Foxy Lady Thigh Piece - This one turned into a masterpiece. I originally got this done by my friend Craig, a mistake, yes. But Max so beautifully redid it and I couldn't be happier. I plan on getting more pieces like this on my legs. This tattoo did not hurt as one might assume, it was actually not bad at all, if you were wondering. (Artist: Max Klapp, White Lotus Tattoo)

Tattoos have been such a great way for me to express myself and also express my love towards others. People are afraid because "It's permanent, I'll regret it" and blah blah blah. But now you see, I have tattoos that I got a long time ago that HAD meaning that don't anymore, you won't ever see me wishing I hadn't gotten them or wanting to black them out. Tattoos can have new meanings and can symbolize growth. It all depends on how you look at it.

I can't wait to get more and keep telling stories and expressing myself. I love being one big canvas. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me in my form or comment below.

Happy Friday, I thought I'd make it colorful for you. ;)

35mm Gold.

There's nothing I love more than gritty, old fashioned semi-out of focus film photographs. Okay, maybe a few things, but not much. Spencer just recently hit up a local camera show in downtown Anaheim and snatched a pretty Welta 35mm baby from the 1940's. Unsure if it even worked or if the expired film from Walmart he rolled would even come out, we took our chances.

I'm so glad that we did.

It’s how we see the world that keeps the darkness beyond at bay. Keeps it from pouring through and devouring us. I think all of us might know that, way down deep.

The whole reason I got into photography was because of film. Fifteen years old basically closed my eyes and chose an elective. Best choice I ever made. It makes me sad that many schools these days don't have it as a choice. I'd love to have my own dark room, hold on while I dream.

The more I see Spencer play around with all these different cameras makes me want to get back into it more... and it makes me love him more, actually. He never ceases to amaze me. Who knew two photographers would work so well together. but that's for another blog post... ;)

This post is also featuring my dear internet friend's new clothing brand Three Leaves Co. I've known Annmarie for years. She's followed my silly mixed up life and I've followed her sweet adorable one.  (It's true.) It's also quite unreal the connection you can make with people without ever meeting face to face. We will meet some day soon though, I swear on it. Some of my closest friends I've met that way. She is the sweetest soul.

I'm stoked for her and her new brand and I gotta say, this tank is probably the softest one I now own. Jackpot. Go check out her shop and follow her on the Instagrams: @threeleavesco

Let's Back Up For A Minute.

I've just realized I've only written one personal post on this site... that should change. I'm a very personal blogger.. I write like I speak.. so let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm gonna be raw with you. Get your mind outta the gutter.

I'm a 24 year old goofball who loves taking photos and loves DIY crafts. (Don't redirect me to Pinterest, I don't have an account. Bet you didn't see that coming. I deserve an award or a cuddle from somebody for that.) I've always been a crafty individual though, ask my parents. I've always been pretty good at working with what I've got and creating things out of nothing.

Spending 9 years at a private school didn't really let me express myself how I wanted to. Free dress days weren't really 'free dress' as far as my style was concerned. I was still pretty social though. I would hangout with girls and have sleepovers, but I'd also hangout with the boys and play in the dirt. I've always been bad at choosing sides. I'm a people pleaser.

I strived to be 'different' with my drastic haircuts and ever-changing hair colors along with my odd shoe collection and rough attitude.. Yeah, I was something alright. Snarky...a professional button-pusher, you parents know what I'm talking about. But hey, I was fun, I kept everyone on their toes and all I wanted to do was make people laugh. I'd hangout with me.

I feel like I didn't officially become an adult until very recently though. It's been a crazy journey but it's one that I wouldn't change. And while weeding out bad seeds and learning about how to love myself has deemed quite challenging... I'm loving the process and who I meet along the way; even the bad ones. Nobody said it was easy they just promised it'd be worth it, right?

If you would have told me when I was 17 that this is what would happen between then and now, I would NOT have believed you. When I mentioned I loved keeping people on their toes; that's exactly what life did to me. It threw me a fast one and I handled it as best as I could. I really knew how to pick 'em when it came to relationships in my past, let me tell you. Sparing you all of the "poor her poor her" details, a not-so-nice boy and a divorce was involved. Definitely boy, not man. I was not treated like I deserved to be. But there I was, 21 years old and had no idea who I was, left in a terrible situation with a strategic decision to make on how to get out.

I remember the day when everything came to an end and I was sitting on my bed at my parents house, not crying and feeling numb, my dad walked in and said something to me. At first, it was hard to understand how he meant it, but I know he meant it in a positive way and I see that now. He said, "Nobody ever wants to see their child go through something like this, but out of all my kids I'm glad it was you because I know you can handle it and come out on top."

He doesn't know this, but that quote has stuck with me immensely throughout my growth and rehabilitation process. So, dad, if you're reading this, thank you. You were right, I'm a tough f*cking cookie and look, I came out on top just like you said I would. I've built a life for myself that is all my own and I've found someone who appreciates and respects every inch of me. Everything I've learned along the way has made me who I am and will ultimately help me love him better.

Thank you for always believing in me and knowing my worth even when I didn't.

Scare the world: Be exactly who you say you are and tell the truth.

Bottom line, I've been through complex things but I wouldn't categorize myself as a complex person. I know what I want and I go after it. This is what I've learned.

  • Every experience you go through is a positive one, it all depends on how you look at it.
  • Only you are in control of you, you can't control what others do.
  • Every heartache equals growth.
  • Figure out who you are and learn to love yourself.
  • Don't let anyone make you feel like you aren't good enough because you are.
  • Know your worth and don't settle for anything less.

And if it helps, I believe in you.

It's Your Boy Spence

Hello there. I'm Michelle's boyfriend, Spencer. Nice to meet you.

Me 005.jpg

I know, right? Not winnin' any beauty contests any time soon. I still don't understand why she likes me. But I digress.

Anyways, here's a little bit about me...

Me 008.jpg

I am a 24 year old professional photographer and musician. I play drums for a band called Moderne and work full time for an international clothing company taking web and lifestyle photos. You can see some of my work HERE. I grew up in sunny Southern California and for the majority of my adolescence I played club ice hockey 7 days a week. I am a loyal Red Wings fan and have been my whole life. Go ahead... talk your sh*t... our cup count isn't listening. ;)

I have one blood brother who is 7 years older than me and a "step" brother and sister who are both older than me.

When I was 14 I went through rehabilitation for a severe drug addiction and have not touched the stuff since. God willing, I will celebrate 10 years of sobriety on December 7th this year. Ever since my incarceration I have done everything I can do to pay back the universe for my wrong doings and be the best person I can be.

When I was 14 I joined my first band that would eventually be named Catalina Burning. I played guitar and as you can imagine... we were pretty awful. But we played shows for friends and family for 4 years and I loved every second of it. Shortly after that bands disbanding, I rotated through 3 or 4 bands, most notably playing drums for a very talented man by the name of Taylor Collins until I was offered the spot in Moderne last year.

Anyways, without boring you with my life's story, we will get to the stuff y'all really care about....

Me 003.jpg

I've never been much for fashion - or facial hair for that matter. But in the recent years working in the fashion industry I've had to learn trends and style pretty quickly. Before I met Michelle, I was the guy that would wear Levi's and band tees no matter the occasion. I didn't care too much about my appearance. The first time I grew my beard out it was due to sheer laziness. I'm blessed with European blood so my facial hair grows fast, thick and full with little to no effort. The length it's at now is about 3 months with a trim about a month ago. I've been able to grow a decent beard since I was 15. However, back then, facial hair was not so trendy so I was ridiculed a lot in school and social environments because of it. Which seems funny now.

Me 006.jpg

Michelle does a pretty good job of hunting down styles for me. I encourage her to buy things without asking me. I like being surprised. I get flustered in stores... mostly because I don't have a lot of money so picking one or two things out of an entire store can be daunting. But she has also opened my eyes to bargain shopping. Which I must say has been life changing. Why didn't I do this sooner?!

Anyways, she asked me to just introduce myself to you lovely readers. So here I am. The man behind the camera. I have very much enjoyed being a part of helping her with this blog so far, and I am very much looking forward to the future with her not only on the internetz, but in real life as well.

In the future I will be featured on her blog with a beard care post, some style posts, and a few cynical rants about women's fashion. High waisted shorts aren't doing ANYONE any favors. Leave them in the 90's where they belong.

There's nothing that I love more than sassy passive aggressive t-shirts. They're just, so, me

I'm sure you will end up seeing 90% of mine throughout my blogging lifetime. I will gladly show them off. ;)

A garter belt and thigh highs will always spice up an outfit, I'll never say no. It's a simple way to make an outfit pop and be different. Just have to make sure they aren't necessarily fishnet material as that tends to come off rather halloween costume/go-go dancer.

You can get thigh high socks virtually anywhere and they don't have to be tights. It's Fall and it's a great way to still wear dresses and skirts yet keep your legs warm at the same time.

Support Your Local Tattoo Shop

The most frequent question I get on my blog is "Where do you get your tattoos done?" And while my specific and literal answer is, "lots of places, really", I do have a place that my tattoos call home.

White Lotus Tattoo in Laguna Hills, CA.

I definitely plan on doing a post explaining all of my tattoos in depth and what they stand for but I felt it was appropriate and well deserved that I give a shoutout to the place that has taken care of me for the past few years. One person in particular, Max Klapp. (@maxradness for all you instagram lurkers)

Max has tackled every idea I've thrown at him with flying colors. Literally. His use of color is ACES. Everyone that works at that shop has treated me so well and like family, sometimes I would go in there and bring lunch and just hangout. It's that type of place. I love it.

I've been getting tattooed by him for about 3 years now. He's done... 7 pieces on me, including my sternum piece which is my favorite. Can't get enough of those bold traditional tattoos, man.

My boyfriend, Spencer (who will be a guest blogger frequently on here) is also an amazing photographer/videographer. What a team we are. I could never make videos as pretty as he does. But, this last week I got a tattoo from Max and he came along with all of his camera jazz. Did a little video, (I'm sorry his tattoo machine literally sounds like the wrath of Thor if that was a sound) but if you listen carefully you'll learn something. ;) It's a fun video and I'm really glad he made it. I hope you enjoy it.

If you're a local reader I highly suggest you book with Max PRONTO as he plans on moving up to Washington state in April 2015. (biggest sad face f**king ever) But I mean, if you live in the Washington area, look up Max and book him! He's a gem, so take good care of him and his pretty lady. I will miss them so.

P.S. Spencer felt it completely necessary to shove a camera in my face when Max was drilling my elbow and snapped a photo every time I made a face or did a thing. For your viewing pleasure, I call this politely... "f**k off, I'm in pain mother f**ker"

Go support your local tattoo shops!

Rompers and The Struggle (not a Children's book)

Now, while being 5'5'' isn't really a "struggle" in itself... having an extra long torso is. Some ladies I know will agree with me on this subject and 90% of rompers and pantsuits are virtually impossible. It's up your ass all day and you better not think about sitting down... because it's not happening. But I've found the key goals in shopping for rompers/pantsuits when you have my problem.

  1. Stick to rompers/pantsuits that have no elastic waist. These tend to ride up easier and pull. If you're like me and have baby-makin' hips and a tiny waist then elastic around your waist does not help. I just said waist way too many times for my liking.
  2. It helps greatly if you have adjustable straps. That way you can lengthen the romper as much as you can if necessary. Halter tops are even better!
  3. I usually buy clothing in size small (except jeans, because let's be honest here) but rompers I always choose one size up, they tend to be longer when made - or so I've noticed. So I always order a medium, no matter what. Fun Fact.
  4. Despite what you may think, strapless rompers don't necessary mean you're home-free. They are actually mostly shorter in length and whenever I have high hopes and try them on, the bust is always basically at my belly button. Nope. But you may find a gem every once in awhile, but I would never purchase one without trying it on first. Just my advice.

Secret to deep V's and keeping your lovelies inside: Fashion Tape. You can find it virtually anywhere. Target, Walmart, Forever21, etc etc. It saves my life and it could save yours too. Help save a life, call 1-800... haha, had to. I started to feel like Sarah Mclachlan over here. *shivers

There's always ways to wiggle around outfits that aren't technically made for your body type, you just have to search a little harder for them. They're out there! Sometimes I see rompers and I wonder where the heck the torso is because - it's not there. Who's shaped like that?!

Everyone is shaped differently and we figure out what works best. Individually. I like it that way. Unique. I have friends that can rock the hell out of pointed flats or heels but when I try them on, I feel like the wicked witch of the west. Nope. But hey, more power to them!

Confidence and being secure in your style has a big impact on how you can rock an outfit.

Embrace your uniqueness and roll with it.
